Land of a Thousand Smiles

If I ever manage write one song half as good as "Working Class Guitar," I'll die a very happy man.

Steven Grant Smith

Stranger In This Town

I could have a lot of fun with this guy's last name and juxtapose it with his music, which turns out not to be Stone-rock but actually a blend of folk and country that comes off sounding a little like James Taylor's music as sung by Gordon Lightfoot, but I won't because the music here is actually good. Kevin is joined by three more Stonerocks (I would have to assume they are all related) in his very capable band and the resultant sound is a very well-textured me'lange that thankfully turns what could have been a bland melding of folk and lite rock into something a lot more meaty and meaningful... this is a very, very solid CD and bodes well for Stonerock's future. He's definitely a talent worth watching.

("Stranger In This Town") is wonderful! I have listened to it several times. My seventeen year old son likes it to. He says he enjoys (Stonerock's) music because it is "real". Thanks for giving me something I can share with my teenage son. That makes your music even more special.

Day Before Tomorrow

"Day Before Tomorrow" is a calming, sometimes wistful look at love. The artist's influences show, and blended with his own developing style, produce an album that is very easy to listen to. I'm looking forward to Stonerock's next effort, but in the meantime, "Day Before Tomorrow" stands as a first effort of first rate quality.

Indianapolis Entertainer, August 1978

"This album's songs shift between finger-snapping, toe-tapping, lighthearted melodies to more somber, moody pieces. Kevin's fluid acoustic and electric guitar playing is strong and inspired throughout."

Guitar Player Magazine, June 1979

Performances

"Kevin Stonerock has combined his grassroots knowledge of local history and his considerable skill as a writer, actor and musician into a career...'I spent 30 years wondering what I was going to do when I grew up,' he says. 'Then I realized that this is what I do'. Lucky for Indiana."

Meredith Gregg, Arts Indiana, October 1995
